Instructor-Led Training
Instructor-led FOIP training is available to current employees of public bodies.
The FOIP training program includes three one-day courses for employees who are responsible for FOIP, a half-day course for employees who require a basic overview of the concepts of protection of privacy and access to information, and a one-day session for Government of Alberta employees on managing contracts under FOIP. Training courses are held in Edmonton and Calgary several times a year or arrangements can be made for delivery of any or all of the classroom courses at your workplace.
The courses in this program have been developed by Service Alberta, the department responsible for the province-wide administration of FOIP. A detailed list of topics covered in each course is provided on the Course Descriptions page.
Online Training
The "FOIP: Focus on Privacy" course is an online training tool designed specifically for employees of all levels within public bodies, but is accessible online by anyone. The course is a self-managed awareness training intended to provide a basic overview of the concepts of informational privacy and Alberta's privacy legislation. Most of the course deals with privacy and the protection of personal information. The public's right to access records of a public body is discussed as well. A certificate of completion is available to print at the end of the course. However, participation and completion of the course are not recorded.
