BizPaL Costs

Business communities and municipalities do not pay fees to use the online system, and Service Alberta pays the federal software licence fees. Service Alberta also provides the tools and templates to implement BizPaL at no charge. There are costs, however, for setting up and operating the BizPaL systems. Costs can include:

  • Staffing (pdf)
  • Administration
  • Hardware
  • Travel

Costs will vary depending on the size of the municipality, the types and complexity of permits/licences issued, the number of municipal departments issuing permits/licences and the internet technology in place.

Does each municipality need to have its own BizPaL website?

There is no requirement for a municipality website, and most jurisdictions choose a technical option requiring very little support.
