Consumer Alert - Manitoba-Based Travel Company Under Investigation by Alberta Government Services
For immediate release, Edmonton, January 26, 2001
Alberta Government Services is warning all Albertans to be aware of Manitoba-based travel operator Wayne Flett and Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc.
Flett, through Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc., advertises throughout western Canada bus tour packages with various U.S. destinations including Las Vegas, Mesquite, Biloxi, Branson, and New York. He also has operated travel companies under the names of Mr. Canada’s Touring Network Inc., Mr. Canada’s Entertainment Network Ltd., and Circle Tours Inc.
Alberta Government Services has launched several investigations into the company after receiving a number of complaints from Alberta consumers. Some consumers allege that, after booking and paying for a trip, the trip was cancelled or postponed a number of times. They were not provided with a refund. Other consumers agreed to travel with the company on the understanding that they would receive a cash rebate within 60 – 90 days of completing the trip. Those rebates have not been received by consumers.
Concerned customers of Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc. or any of the other related companies may contact Alberta Government Services toll free through its Consumer Information Centre at 1-877-427-4088.
Consumers should carefully review the terms of any contract they are being asked to enter into with Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc. Consumers should be very cautious in paying any monetary deposit to this company or its related affiliates.
Alberta Government Services also has been monitoring a Manitoba prosecution in which that province’s Consumers Bureau has charged Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc. and Wayne Flett with 11 counts under Manitoba’s Business Practices Act.
Both Alberta and Manitoba have been working together on this matter through the Alberta-developed Canshare system, which is a national information-sharing database that allows jurisdictions to monitor and identify marketplace problems and issue consumer alerts forewarning consumers of threats in the marketplace.
