Business Services
Business Services consists of three areas: Consumer Services, Delivery Services and Records and Information Management.
Consumer Services
Supports a fair and effective marketplace for consumers and businesses by administering and enforcing consumer protection legislation and informing Albertans of their rights and responsibilities in matters such as residential tenancies, purchase decisions and protection of their identities.
The ministry's Consumer Contact Centre (1-877-427-4088) handles more than 100,000 phone inquiries from Albertans each year. The centre provides information on dozens of topics including landlord/tenant disputes, making purchases over the Internet and lodging a consumer complaint. Albertans can also call 310-0000 to access the Citizen Services Call Centre for information about a program or service a referral to a ministry specialist.
This area is also responsible for the Office of the Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA), which works to ensure consumers have the information, representation and protection they need in Alberta's restructured electricity and natural gas markets.
Delivery Services
Responsible for providing a range of services to government ministries in the areas of print, mail, inter-department courier, telecom, office equipment, security access and furniture. This area also operates the Alberta Government Library and the Queen's Printer.
Records and Information Management
Develops policies and standards for managing information and records as well as provision of advice and training to Government of Alberta employees.
