Becoming a Registry Agent
Service Alberta will consider opening new registry agent offices where the volume of transactions and population growth demonstrate the need for increased service.
When Service Alberta is looking for a new or additional agent (usually in a specific area) the business opportunity is publicly advertised and interested parties are invited to submit a Request for Proposal. Proposals are evaluated in relation to others submitted, and the most suitable business case is accepted.
Since privatization in 1993, registry agents have had the opportunity to sell their business. Service Alberta is not notified of these sales until the existing agent has accepted an offer to purchase. The proposed new owner is required to complete an application and provide a detailed business plan to Service Alberta for approval. The proposed new owner will also be required to undergo a comprehensive security clearance and interview conducted by Service Alberta. Interested parties could approach existing registry agents about the possibility of purchasing their registry business.
An information package, available to the general public, provides a background on the Registry Agent Network and the requirements to become a registry agent. This package also contains the Product Catalogue, a sample Registry Agent Agreement and the Facility Requirements and Guidelines. To obtain a copy of the information package, send an e-mail with the subject "Information Package" and include your name and mailing address.
