Identity Theft
 
Sari’s character asks “IS SHE ME ?” and cleverly illustrates the consumer message with a variety of scenarios which could be targets of identity theft. Her questionnaire response demonstrated an excellent knowledge of identity theft and listed the steps consumers need to take to ensure they do not become victims of this crime.

Colette’s talented poster creates awareness for young consumers using a variety of identifications they will manage in their lifetime. Her questionnaire response demonstrated a strong knowledge and understanding of consumer rights and responsibilities.

Award of Merit
Edmonton Financial Literacy Society (EFLS), Financial Education support provided to Edmonton area High Schools’ Career and Life Management (CALM) curriculums.

EFLS, established in 1995, designed this course to help teenagers have a greater understanding of the fundamentals of money and their relationship to it. It may be facilitated by EFLS, other agencies, or in schools through the Career and Life Management (CALM) curriculum. (116 page workbook included.)

Global News Edmonton, Lemon Aid

For their Troubleshooter footage of interview with car-buying expert Phil Edmonston (author of “Lemon-Aid Vehicle Guides”). Three-part series of reports designed to better inform consumers what steps they should take when considering a vehicle purchase and identifies “red flags’. Includes information on makes/ models: fuel efficiency, frequency of mechanical problems, availability of replacement parts, longevity, crash worthiness, quality and safety issues, recalls and warranty history.

Global News Edmonton, Civil Court

For their Troubleshooter footage of a two-part series that gives people a better understanding of how the system works and educates them on how to file their own legal complaints. It provides knowledge on how to sue someone in Civil or Small Claims Court, and then collect compensation should it be awarded.  The series includes Landlord and Tenant disputes and deals gone bad with car salespeople or building contractors. The series empowers consumers to take action and lifts the fear and mystery of the Civil Court processes.
