Permanent Marriage Commissioner Appointments

Marriage Commissioners are appointed by the Alberta Government to perform civil or non-religious marriage ceremonies. There are over 200 marriage commissioners located throughout Alberta. Typically, marriage commissioners are appointed for a five-year term.

Changes to the Permanent Marriage Commissioner Program

Service Alberta is currently making improvements to the Permanent Marriage Commissioner (PMC) program.

Service Alberta will be reaching out to communities across Alberta providing prospective individuals interested in becoming a marriage commissioner with information about upcoming opportunities and how to apply.

Until the new processes have been finalized, no applications are being accepted.

Starting this summer, Service Alberta will begin to advertise in communities requiring new commissioners or where the current commissioner’s appointment is expiring.  Information about appointment opportunities will also be available on our website. Service Alberta expects to resume PMC appointments in August 2013.
